BACHECHI OPEN SPACE

Bachechi Open Space is a 27 acre site for environmental education and recreation, provided to the public by Bernalillo County in Albuquerque, NM. The program for the design was to restore the former alfalfa farm and equestrian facility to a natural preserve along the Rio Grande. Constructed wetlands, depressed meadows that receive flood irrigation from the river, a native woodland arbor walk, picnic areas, equestrian facilities, trails and gathering space around a new environmental education building enliven the site for it’s many regional visitors.

Allie Cassel worked as a project designer from the Master Planning phase through Construction Documentation, working to develop the planting plan, grading and drainage plan and many key details for the site. She worked as the project manager during construction, coordinating daily with the owners, contractors and other design consultants to achieve a successful installation.
